MUSIC AS STORY: MUSIC AS INSPIRATION FOR CREATIVE WRITING

Grades 4-6
2 performing/teaching artists - 3 presentations/day
$475 + $350 + $225= $1050
Musical clues to creative writing, musical conversations, imagination and creativity unleashed! This program deepens the listening process by focusing on the story element in music. In the hands of our musicians, music becomes conversational and a language of its own. Children first listen to musical clues (major and minor harmony, rhythmic energy, pitch ranges and harmony) and explore their meaning. Then, using their heightened awareness, they connect the emotional meaning of the music to their creative writing talents. In this way, musical imagination is linked to the skills and imagination of storytelling. The program includes an exercise in which children participate in a lively musical conversation with an improvising musician in the role of a mythical creature. The children co-create the mythical creature and the unique world it inhabits and begin their own creative writing and storytelling based entirely on musical clues! Teachers may record this session for more creative writing and listening in the classroom.
