VOCAL ARTS WORKSHOP

Grades 9-12
1 performing/teaching artist plus an accompanist - Three presentations/day
$450 + $300 + $175= $925
Our professional singers/master teachers and vocal coaches offer guidance and instruction to aspiring young singers with demonstrations, individual and group exercises, informative discussion and supportive critiques. The program opens with a brief performance by the master teacher highlighting both classical and Broadway music. Introductory thoughts on music making and singing technique set the stage for friendly, respectful learning and the "master class" format to follow. The master teacher then works with 5-6 students who have prepared solo musical selections. The students perform in front of their peers and then work with the master teachers on their vocal, interpretive and presentational skills. Each student's personal challenges are addressed as universal challenges for all singers. The audience is included at all times and encouraged to apply the lessons to their own work. The workshop closes with questions and answers and a discussion of training and career paths in music.
This workshop can be presented by any of our three master teachers singly or in combination: Dianne Legro, soprano, Paul Spencer Adkins, tenor and John Cimino, baritone.

AUDITION TECHNIQUES FOR YOUNG PERFORMERS

Grades 7-12
1 performing/teaching artist plus an accompanist - Three presentations/day
$450 + $300 + $175= $925
Premise: the stagecraft and mental skills so necessary for successful competing and auditioning also enhance a performer's life by creating self-confidence, polish and professional form. During the first ten minutes of this workshop, the master teacher performs one classical and one Broadway piece and provides a critical overview of auditions, competitions and career advancement. In the hour that follows, students work in front of their peers as if in an audition or competition situation dedicating their efforts to strengthening their presentation and learning how to manage their stress and increase self awareness. The techniques reviewed include: mind set, self talk, centering, breath control, mental focus, entrances, stage deportment, bows, thank you's, exits, and self debriefing for success. In the closing question and answer period, students discuss both outer form and inner techniques for enjoyable, successful performing.
This workshop can be presented by any of our three master teachers: Dianne Legro, soprano, Paul Spencer Adkins, tenor, or John Cimino, baritone. It is appropriate for young singers, actors, musicians and public speakers.

INNER BALANCE FOR YOUNG SINGERS AND ACTORS

Grades 7-12
1 performing/teaching artists - Three presentations/day
$375 + $175 + $100= $650
This special edition of INNER BALANCE led by Dianne Legro (singer, actress, director) introduces young actors and singers to the important working connections between their minds and their bodies. In order to manage their nerves and focus their creativity and vocal power, all artists must first discover and understand their stillpoint. This class begins with exercises in body-centering, alignment, deep breathing and breath control - all aimed at discovering stillpoint while simultaneously reducing stress, improving mental awareness and improvisation ability. Interactive theater techniques, such as mirroring and improv scenarios, strengthen students' powers of observation and make them more aware of group dynamics. "Peak performance" training techniques are also explored. Games such as: "Self Talk", "Creative Visualization" and "See Yourself Succeed", help students with self esteem, group problem solving, communication and creativity. The mind-body techniques presented in this class have a broad application and will also help students deal with peer pressure and many of the other stressful challenges they face in their lives.
